Brow -
The eye brow is one of the first signs of facial aging. As the brow
descends, the upper eyelids appear heavy and tired. The deep lines or
furrows that appear above the nose are called frown lines.
Correction
of the brow can be achieved with carefully placed BOTOX® Injections
or injected fillers, as well as permanent correction through surgery. The surgical procedures
to correct aging no longer involves huge ear to ear incisions, in fact,
the incisions usually are no bigger than 1 inch and do not require that
any hair is shaved. New techniques can elevate the falling brow through an upper eye lid incision. (Transorbital Brow Lift). This can also be accomplished in selected patients with suture suspension.
Eyelids -
Current thinking states that less is more, thus when correcting lid
problems it is always imperative not to cause a hollow or surprised
look. Instead of removing skin and fat we now use what is available
to us to create a more gentle transition between lower lid and the aging
cheek. Incisions are often placed inside the lid (thus they are not visible)
and healing time may be a long weekend. Often instead of surgery, the orbit is augmented with fat or injectable filler to reduce the appearance of tired eyes or bags.
New technologies
now allow us more aggressive techniques. Problems such as rounding
of the lid, increased white show, inability to close the lid, and excessively
deep set eyes are all correctable.
