Everything You Needed to Know about Facial Fillers

Facial Filler Info

Facial fillers are incredibly popular among women who want to fight wrinkles and regain their youthful looks. They are more budget-friendly and less invasive than facelifts, and they offer some fantastic results. Many patients are a bit apprehensive when it comes to facial fillers. Here is some information about what you should expect.

What Are Facial Fillers?

Facial fillers are injectable compounds designed to fill and contour your face to reduce wrinkles, improve structure, and restore youthfulness. They are a very popular alternative to facelifts, which are expensive, invasive, and require a lot of recovery time. Facial fillers are not permanent solutions to aging, but with regular maintenance, they offer you an outstanding way to improve your appearance and self-confidence.

You Will Be Comfortable

You will receive facial filler injections during your treatment, and plenty of people are apprehensive when it comes to needles. It often takes several injections to complete a facial area, and these injections can be uncomfortable. Fortunately, you will receive local and topical anesthesia prior to these injections so you will not feel any pain. In the case of very sensitive areas, such as the lips, your doctor will likely use a nerve block to prevent pain. This will allow you to relax your facial muscles, too, which gives the doctor a better overall view of your facial structure.

It May Take a Little Time

The time it takes for you to receive all of your facial injections depends on the treatment area and the number of injections you receive. Local and topical anesthetics last about an hour, so it will never take longer than that. Most of the time, your appointment will be over in about half an hour. For only a couple of injections, your visit may take only 15 minutes or so.

At Home Care Prevents Pain

Depending on the extent of facial fillers used and the number of injections received, you will need to give yourself some at-home care to prevent bruising and swelling. Ibuprofen is the most common and best over the counter pain reliever as it not only helps to relieve pain, but it also reduces swelling quite well and helps to provide better results. Acetaminophen and naproxen are also viable options. Be sure to apply ice to the treatment area as soon as possible in order to further reduce swelling and prevent bruising.

Follow-Up Visits

Following your first treatment, your doctor will likely want to see you again in a few days to check your progress and your response to the facial fillers. You may or may not need additional injections to achieve your desired results. Once you have the results you want, the time between visits to maintain those results can vary based on the product used. Some fillers absorb into the body in just a few months; others may last more than a year. Everyone responds differently to these products, too.

Facial fillers are one of the best ways to regain the youthful look you want as you age. They are not as drastic as facelifts, and they are generally safe. What’s more, they are much more comfortable and require only a few hours’ recovery time.
