The Worst Advice We’ve Ever Heard about Plastic Surgery

Plastic Surgery Advice

People have plastic surgery for many different reasons, and the clear majority of those people seek advice long before they ever start looking for a surgeon. Unfortunately, not all the advice they receive is sound, and in some cases, it’s downright terrible. Here are some examples of the worst advice we’ve ever heard about plastic surgery.

#1 – Getting Surgery Will Make People Like You

Some of the people who seek plastic surgery think that changing the way they look will make people like them. In fact, recent surveys have shown a startling trend. More and more people over age 50 in the workplace are having plastic surgery to “compete” with their younger coworkers. They feel that by looking younger, they’ll be considered for the same promotions, perks, and benefits as their younger counterparts. This is often not the case. Much as you should never have plastic surgery to please someone else, you shouldn’t do it to compete, either. It’s all about feeling good in your own skin and reflecting on the outside what you feel on the inside.

#2 – You Can Save Money if You Travel Internationally

Most insurance policies don’t cover cosmetic surgery unless it’s considered reconstructive in nature. This means that most people pay for their surgeries out of pocket, and they can get expensive. To combat this, there are plenty of stories of people traveling across the world to get their surgeries in countries where healthcare is not as expensive. Unfortunately, healthcare is not as well controlled and regulated in these areas, either. Surgeons don’t require the same licensing, and hospitals and clinics aren’t held to the same standards. This can be dangerous.

#3 – It’s Not Worth the Pain and Recovery

Plastic surgery is a big procedure in most cases. Whether you’re having a facelift, cheek implants, or rhinoplasty, you should expect some discomfort and pain after your surgery. However, experienced plastic surgeons can help you manage that discomfort and pain through the application of ice, pain medication, and other things that will minimize them. The clear majority of patients claim that their results were (and still are) well worth days or even weeks of soreness following their surgeries.

#4 – It Will Fix You

If there’s one bit of advice that is worse than all the rest, it’s the notion that having plastic surgery will make you a better person and may even help pull you out of depression. If you’ve felt uncomfortable with a part of your body for quite some time, then it’s true that having plastic surgery may help improve your overall self-esteem. However, having plastic surgery to look like someone in a magazine or to look younger overall – especially if you think it will change the way people perceive you – may do more harm than good.

There’s plenty of advice out there for those who are considering plastic surgery, but it’s important to learn to decipher the good advice from the bad. The four things above represent the absolute worst of the worst, too. Ask yourself these questions to find out whether you’re considering your surgery for the right reasons.
