Cheek Implants
in McLean, VA
Cheek implants are a procedure for patients who desire fuller and better-contoured cheeks in Virginia including McLean, Falls Church, Tysons, Arlington plus the Washington DC area. It is performed by Dr. Vartan Mardirossian at the Mardirossian Facial Aesthetics fully licensed surgical suite in McLean, VA.
What are Cheek Implants?
Cheek implants are the placement of prefabricated or custom-made silicone facial implants to enhance the contour and the fullness of the cheekbone. The implants are usually placed through a small incision in the mouth and lie directly on the cheekbone.
Because they are covered by all the soft tissue of the cheek, their appearance is naturally prominent and beautiful. The correct aesthetic position of the implants is maintained by placing tiny titanium screws (usually one per side) that fix them to the underlying bone. The small incisions in the mouth are closed with self-absorbing sutures.
Am I a Candidate for Cheek Implants?
If you feel that your cheeks are sagging and lacking volume, and give you a tired and less attractive look, then you are probably a candidate for cheek implants. There are many sizes and shapes available, so during the consultation, Dr. Mardirossian will recommend the best implant to improve your facial aesthetics. Many times, a special CT scan is performed to decide which implant will be best suited for you.
What are the Benefits of Cheek Implants?
Cheek implants enhance the attractiveness of the face in several unique ways:
- They improve the contour and increase the volume of the cheekbones at the same time. This is more and better than what cheek fillers can accomplish, as they increase volume but do not improve the contour.
- They effectively result in a midface lift by lifting the cheek soft tissue, improving or even canceling the nasolabial lines.
- They make the nose and chin appear smaller in the overall harmony of the face.
- They are permanent but, if necessary, they can be easily removed under local anesthesia.
- They are made of semisolid silicone that does not leak and the cheekbone forms a capsule around them.

How Are Cheek Implants Placed?
A small 8 mm (1/4 inch) incision is made on both sides inside the mouth and next to the gum of the upper teeth. The cheek implants are introduced directly on the bone and then are fixed down to it with a tiny titanium screw to avoid any migration. Strict sterile technique and antibiotic solutions are used before and during the operation to decrease the risk of infection. The small incisions are then closed by layers with absorbable suture material.
Despite being performed through a fine hidden incision, cheek implants placement involves manipulation of deep tissues near your eye, some important blood vessels, and the nerves that move the mouth and collect sensation from the lip areas. To avoid unnecessary risks, make sure you trust your face to an expert in the field like Dr. Mardirossian when considering this procedure.

“Dr. Mardirossian and his entire staff are incredible. From the moment I walked in the door I felt comfortable and confident in my choice of doctors. What is Recovery Like After Cheek Implants?
Swelling generally lasts one to two weeks. You may be advised to use ice for three to seven days following your procedure to allow for proper wound healing. Antibiotic mouth wash is important for two weeks postoperatively.
Before you leave, you will be given instructions on when to follow up and how to properly care for the incision sites. Most of our patients go back to their everyday activities three to four days after the procedure. Strenuous physical activity can be resumed after three weeks.
