Why a Facelift Can Shed Years off Your Face

Facelifts

Looking younger is a goal that numerous people want to achieve; however, in many cases, they are not always sure how to go about it though. Although treatments like dermabrasion, Botox injections and other laser treatments can be used to help them achieve this goal, having a facelift procedure performed will be able to do so as well – with the only differences being that the effects will last a lot longer, while also shedding years off a person’s appearance.

Reduce Visible Wrinkles and Fine Lines

One of the most obvious ways in which a facelift procedure can shed years off your face is by eliminating the age-related wrinkles and fine lines that are normally found around the eyes, mouth and overall facial area. It can also help eliminate the deep creases that are often found between the mouth and nose. This is done by tightening, trimming and removing excess skin to the point where these facets are no longer visible. In conjunction with the skin tightening and trimming, a plastic surgeon will also tighten and rearrange the underlying facial muscles to provide the patient with a more youthful and fresh appearance.

Improve Overall Facial Contours

Having a facelift will not only eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and saggy skin; it will provide the patient with a much smoother overall appearance on the cheeks and lower eyelid areas as well. Depending on the type of facelift that it being performed, the end results can also see jowls and excessive neck flesh being removed, leaving the patient with a jawline and neck area that are extremely attractive once again. Depending on the severity of any excess neck fat and jowls that may be present, liposuction may sometimes be performed in conjunction with the facelift to achieve the best possible end results.

Available Types of Facelifts

There are a few different options when it comes to having this procedure performed. Patients who do not want to make drastic changes can opt for a mini facelift, which is not as invasive as other facelifts; however, the results thereof may not be as long-lasting as those achieved with other forms of this procedure. The mid-lift option focuses more on the middle of the face and the cheeks, as it involves the lifting and repositioning of the skin and muscle that covers the cheekbone areas. A deep plane procedure may be the most invasive option of all; however, its end results are a lot longer lasting, with many patients enjoying them for as long as 15 years afterwards.

When choosing a plastic surgeon to perform any of these procedures, extensive research must be done on him or her beforehand. He or she should be appropriately registered and experienced, as this will help ensure that the procedure is performed safely. Patients should also base their choice of surgeon on reputation instead of price, as a surgeon who performs ‘cheap’ procedures will usually not be performing them safely or effectively.
