3 Most Common Skin Care Procedures

Not all skin care procedures are invasive. In fact, the three most common skin care procedures performed in the U.S. are same day procedures that require little to no recovery time—and even better, they’re affordable for just about every budget. Each has their own unique set of benefits, purposes, and recovery considerations. The three most common include chemical peels, Botox treatments, and laser therapy.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels help improve your skin’s appearance. By applying a chemical solution to your skin, the outer layer blisters up and peels off, leaving fresher, smoother and less wrinkled skin in its place. You can have a chemical peel performed on your face, neck, and even hands. They’re often used to:

  • Treat wrinkles from aging or sun damage.
  • Treat certain types of acne—including recurring acne spots.
  • Improve or reduce the appearance of facial scars.
  • Reduce the signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles.

These are outpatient skin care procedures that do not take long to complete. You’ll need to be careful about what you put on your skin the first time following the procedure, and avoid direct sun exposure for the first few days.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, also referred to as laser resurfacing, helps reduce skin irregularities and wrinkles. Whether you have acne spots, scars or just want to look younger, you may benefit from laser therapy. The process involves direct, short pulsating beams of light at the affected area. The layers of skin are then removed, layer by layer, until the desired result is achieved.

This is also an outpatient procedure that takes anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes to complete. You may have a bandage where you were treated, and you’ll need to apply an ointment for the first few days after your treatment. You may have dryness and peeling skin, but this is also normal.

Botox Treatments

Botox injections are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. It is often used to treat the lines that appear between your brows and skin folds. The Botox injections are applied directly to the affected area, in small doses by a physician. You will only be in the office for about ten minutes and you won’t have to worry about any downtime afterward. Results start to appear in a few days post-treatment, typically seven to ten days.
